The Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show delivered a great message while also entertaining millions across the world.

We have come a long way in the traditions of Super Bowl (named after a toy, we were reminded), especially when it comes to the entertainment aspect of the big game. When the first couple were staged in the ‘60s, the so-called sideshow featured the University of Arizona Symphonic Marching Band & Grambling State University Marching Band, Trumpeter Al Hirt, at halftime and the Anaheim High School Drill Team and Flag Girls to a half filled coliseums.

Tonight, after all 49 previous MVPs were honored, the NFL honored America with an All-Star Group of Servicemen singing America the Beautiful and presentation of the flags on field. Following that up with six-time Grammy winner Lady Gaga patriotically, wearing a red sequined pant suit with matching glittery red eye shadow, blue nail polish and flag-themed platform shoes. Gaga was not wearing her poker face when belting the National Anthem with much heart and passion. Fittingly,  it was written all over her face how proud she felt being there.

“This is one of the highest honors of my career,” Gaga admitted, according to the Daily Mail. “I get a chance to sing for all the athletes, who have been working so hard their whole lives for this moment, the coaches, as well as the fans…”

The halftime was presented by Pepsi, aiming to represent the past, present and future. Chris Martin from Coldplay entered the field singing Viva la Vida with a youthful marching band.

With colorful energy pumping throughout Levi stadium, the uptown funk was brought by Bruno Mars with lively dance moves and his usual explosive spirit. With a grand entrance from Queen Bae (Beyonce) performing her new hit Formation and fun mash ups that got everyone dancing, the Halftime snowballed as it got rolling.

Ending the show with Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars performing together and while looking back at many of the past performers of the Halftime shows including Whitney Houston, U2, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, many more will not soon be forgotten.

Overall, it’s clear that the show was a major success as the tradition continues. If you weren’t entirely convinced that they hoped for us to all “believe in love” of this continued tradition of the game, half the crowd spelled it out in placards as the last notes hung in the air.
