NY Jets: A year-end letter from a fan to all others

A letter to the NY Jets from a fan that is appreciative of the turnaround season of 2015 compared to the disaster that was 2014.

This is the time of year when all of  those pesky family letters from people you barely know chirping about what’s happen since last year start pouring in.  I’m not quite sure why they irk me but then it dawned on me, why can’t I be that annoying myself?  That’s right, you heard me!

In the spirit of these ponderous picture perfect family updates (and the holiday spirit) let us review how blessed this year has been compared to the horrific 2014 season.  It appears that Santa delivered the Jets from the naughty list to the good one himself and the gifts (aka blessings) have poured in throughout the campaign.  Sit back and enjoy my Jets 2015 family letter!

Hello Fans, Family and Friends!

Wow!  Time sure does fly, it seems like only yesterday the Grinch (Rex Ryan) had diminished our season, team and hopes.  All of which were at an all-time low!  In fact, what a difference a year makes!  This December we have a recent win over the Dallas Cowboys, the Flight Crew cheerleaders in their Santa uniforms, players working hard and fans looking forward to both Fan Appreciation Day when the Jets take on the Patriots and a little magic.  Seems like our conductor, Todd Bowles, has taken us on a ride on the Polar Express, teaching us all a few little lessons.

Bowles has really been the glue to our home.  He picked up not only pieces from the 2014 season but of a rocky dramatic practice over the summer.  Reminding all of us that you cannot go into the season looking for a Super Bowl.  Great things can come to those that take it one day at time, one game at time.  Building on a vulnerable heart, Bowles did what any man of the house would do to protect his family.  At times, you may not understand his decision (whether if it is Geno or Fitzpatrick? Letting Quinton Coples go?) and then suddenly by the end, the big picture emerges with the clarity that we were unable to see when it all started.

In the opening game of the season against the Cleveland Browns, Ryan Fitzpatrick stepped onto the field as our starting quarterback.  His debut was not given the respect deserved, many assuming it was luck.  However, the following week, Fitzpatrick outplayed the Colts in Indianapolis, proving it was more to it than that.  Although Week 3 was a flop, he soon was back on course and a lot of personal goals were made individually.

Our family wasn’t only making headlines and statements in the NFL here, but also in another continent. That’s right, this year we had a family vacation to Europe. We packed our bags in October and not only got to play and teach football to kids in London, but then filled them up and brought the win against Miami back to the Big Apple.  Or, you know, Florham Park in any event.  Upon our return, we had some sloppy wins (Redskins, Jags, Dallas), heartbreaking close loses (Patriots and Bills) and some games we decided it is best to pretend that never happen (cough Raiders…Houston… cough).

Sometimes the best gift isn’t something that can be recorded in the books.  The idea behind the popular kid book and movie, The Polar Express is simply to believe.  And when those around you stop believing the magic fades away.  There is no doubting that Fitzmagic is in the air, the techniques Bowles has used to embed the spirit, not only in our family but to all of you,  gives us the passion to live by his words of believing in the football gods by taking it one day/game at a time.

More jets: Santa Claus is coming to town

And with that power, anything is possible.  After all, a dream is just a wish from the heart.  You never know what the future holds nor does anyone.  We may lose, but go out loving the Jets the same as always, that is what true fans do.  And as we know, Jet fans are the most loyal and have the purist of hearts.  Who knows?  Maybe we find one more present (playoffs) hidden all the way in the back of the Christmas tree.  And that would be a great way for the fam to kick off a wonderful 2016!!  Keep an eye out for next year’s letter to see how it all played out.

Whole Heartedly,

Hillary
