The Jets whittled their roster down to 53 men yesterday but that is not the final roster. After the league-wide cuts, the Jets had a chance to put in a waiver claim for the younger players and an opportunity to sign older free agents. At noon the waiver claims will be announced and teams will be allowed to assemble a 10 man practice squad. Their was a rule change on eligibility as well as size of the practice squad. On eligibility, in order to accrue a season counting towards free agency you now have to play 6 regular season games instead of the previous 3 and on size it was expanded to 10 men from 8 with the extra 2 spots being able to be filled with players who have already accrued 2 seasons of eligibility. These last two spots would allow the Jets to carry Matt Simms and Daryl Richardson, which they did.

The Jets announced the 7 practice squad signees here. Three spots remain to be filled. The team also officially announced the waiver claim award of DB Leon McFadden from Cleveland and the corresponding cut of DB LeQuan Lewis here.

Practice squad: S Rontez Miles, DL Tevita Finau, QB Matt Simms, RB Daryl Richardson, TE Chris Pantale, OL Brent Qvale, Kerry Hyder

Waiver claims: DB Leon McFadden (Cleveland)

Cuts: LeQuan Lewis

The Jets have reportedly signed Rontez Miles back to the practice squad. This was the most important player for the Jets to get back ,in my opinion, so it’s a good start to the day.

As expected, #Jets are signing S Rontez Miles to the practice squad.

The Jets were awarded defensive back Leon McFadden, a 2013 3rd round pick of the Cleveland Browns, off of waivers.

Matt Simms is re-signing with the Jets on the practice squad so they have 3 quarterbacks, while only having 2 that count against the roster. Good job by Idzik.
