The Characteristics of a New York Jets Fan: The Positives

Being a Jets fan can take a toll on a person, wouldn’t you say? I mean, we can all agree that it’s not the easiest thing in the world to be, and that is understandable.

Think about relationships and you will understand why. When we enter into relationships, there is always the look for mutual benefits. How can one party grow thanks to the other? How did that other person make you better? Well, we certainly don’t have that here, as we haven’t gotten much joy from this relationship. We have gotten shared heartache, indigestion, sleepless nights…etc, but not joy.

So it takes unique people to be long-term Jets fans. We are the greatest group out there, but we are as unique as can be as well. Over this two-part series, we are going to look at the characteristics of your typical NY Jets fan, both the positive, and the not so positive. Basically, the characteristics that make us a match made in heaven with the team in Green and White. First, the positives”:

LOYALTY The greatest quality of a New York Jets fan is loyalty. There is no way we could go on rooting for this team if we were not loyal, am I right? I have said it before and I will say it again, WE HAVEN’T WON A CHAMPIONSHIP IN 43 YEARS. Most times when we root for a team, we like to have some success mixed into our failures. Not the Jets. Our success is, “oh, we won 12 games this year”. Great, huh? Remember the song, “It’s Not That Easy Being Green”? Well……..

That is where intense loyalty comes in. We are not entranced by other teams that win Super Bowls. We stay with our men in Green and White. Through thick and thin, no matter how much they disappoint us, we stay with our beloved New York Jets. Why? Because we are loyal.

PASSION Are there any more passionate football fans than us? New York J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS fans? Nope, nobody does it better. We are passionate for this team, and that is the only way we stay with them. We would have been gone years ago if it were not for the passion.

INTELLIGENCE Let me clarify this one. When I say intelligence, you might think I am making a biased statement that because we are Jets fans we are smarter, but that is not where I am going. Here is where I am going. You know the type of fans that follow the team that is good, and that’s it? They pay attention when the team is winning, but don’t at other times?

It doesn’t take a lot to do that. You don’t have to be a genius to watch and enjoy a winning team. It takes intelligence to watch a team, look for the good, understand how it has to improve…etc. THAT is what makes us more intelligent.

Tomorrow, we will take a look at the not-so positives. We will look at the characteristics of a Jets that make us a little nutty.
