NFL Draft Rumors 2013: New York Jets Linked to Tavon Austin

With the draft a few hours away, it was time to bring in the latest draft rumors regarding the Jets. We know how quiet it has been on the Jets front as far as leaks. Sources are putting together what they see and hear, to try to get an idea of what is going on. And it turns out, the Jets are high on Tavon Austin:

Jake’s rumors and sources are usually pretty solid, so if Jake tells us this is the case, it typically is. If this becomes the case, fan reaction would be huge, as the fanbase is high on Austin. He is looked at as the big play threat that the Jets haven’t had in years. Here is an example of fan reaction:

The other rumor that has come out of late is that the Jets will move out of one of their two top fifteen picks. John Idzik wants to build through the draft, and that means stockpiling picks. Rich Cimini from ESPN New York heard info on that:

Across the board, there is agreement that this draft is very unpredictable. Some want the Jets to take a tight end, some don’t. Some are excited about the idea of Geno Smith and all the quarterbacks being available tonight, some are begging and pleading for the Jets NOT to take one. With Darrelle Revis gone, speculation has begun about the Jets taking a cornerback to replace him. Talk has mainly centered around Dee Milliner from Alabama. I say let him go somewhere else, take a look at Rich Cimini’s pots:

I don’t want anyone in here that is that high on himself already. Talk to me after you gain some humility.

It can all finally come to a head tonight.

I think I’m gonna take a night off from the gym and painting, make some popcorn, have a couple beers and hope… IIWT

I wanna see Austin, an olb and an extra pick or two. Not too much to ask for is it? I mean, we lost rIIIvIIIs. The football gods owe us a great draft, don’t they?

They do…how do you think we did?

i shoulda painted and gone to the gym….i’m not overly impressed. austin was beyond our control, i understand that. after him i don’t think there was much offensive skill value left in the first round. i do like the idea of another def lineman. other teams won’t be running on us anymore. i was really surprised by milliner (as were you, i’m sure). i guess they see more value in hunt or someone else at olb later on. i’ll continue to give idzik the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong. still hope to get ivory. would’ve liked to see us get more picks but wasn’t really too keen on trading out of our spots (don’t ask me how else i thought we might gain more picks, out of sympathy maybe) though i don’t know that we couldn’t have moved back a bit and still got the dt. maybe milliner is the real deal and we won’t have to watch wilson and his stupid finger wag after the receiver drops a pass so much anymore. i was hoping for more but if they can’t run on us and the pass defense is better that does in a backhanded way help the offense. hope milliner is a secial teams stud..

feel the same way.. Was shocked about Milliner, the only part I like is that they can move Wilson back to nickel, which is where he is much better suited. I do think he will have to endure Darrelle comparisons for a long time which won’t make things easy on him.
As far as Richardson, I would have rather an edge guy, like Jarvis Jones. But you might be right, they may have passed on him because they covet Hunt. We will see tonight
