Some Final Thoughts Before a Day Off at Jets Training Camp

Coach Ryan and company finished their final practice ths morning, before taking a day off tomorrow. If you missed our report by JETSerious, you can take a look at it by clicking here.  With that, here are some final thoughts as we head into the first day off of Jets training camp:

• I love that Aaron Maybin is becoming a leader on defense.  From all accounts, he is leading with his play, as he was able to beat D’Brickashaw Ferguson on more than one occasion.  He has more than one sack so far, yes it is practice, but still.  He is earning more time on the field, and his voice is pushing his teammates to do more.  It’s a great sign.
• One of the biggest positives has been Bilal Powell, much to the surprise of many.  He wasn’t expected to do much, and now he is in the discussion as the third down back.  They don’t have a lot of proven guys at running back, so this is encouraging.
• It is discouraging, however, to hear that the quarterbacks are holding the ball too long, as this leads to sacks, bad decisions….etc.  Hopefully, the use of the buzzer that coach Ryan is talking about will help.
• That being said, it is great to hear that Mark Sanchez has a great handle on the offense.  It really is too early to worry about the completion numbers, although it is no surprise that he is out-throwing Tim Tebow.  But on his grasp of the offense, Rex said Mark has it so well, that it is like he has played with Sparano for years.  Your quarterback must know the offense better than anyone, so this couldn’t be better news.

• It was very encouraging to see Darrelle Revis as a full go on the field today.  I am still skeptical about yesterday as we talked about this morning, but this is not the time for that.  We need him healthy, and it seems that he is.
• Love to hear about the play so far out of  Ellis Lankster.  We need many defensive backs, and Ellis could fit right in.  Check us out tomorrow morning when we do a profile on Lankster.
• Love the play of Stephen Hill so far.  The Sparano offense will thrive with a deep threat, and Hill is proving that he may just be the guy to fill the bill.

That’s it for my thoughts on training camp so far.  The team has a day off tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean that the J-E-T Press does.  Tune in tomorrow as we will still be talking Jets all day long.
