It’s been a long offseason gang. Especially long, due to the way 2011 ended. It always feels longer with no postseason, and turmoil even makes it feel longer.

But we made it. Training camp is here. The players are checking in to SUNY Cortland today, with workouts slated to begin tomorrow morning. Jets football is back! Like the first day of school, it’s a time for optimism. It’s a time to put 2011 behind us and move forward. Everybody is 0-0, and we don’t know what the future holds.

Darrelle Revis will be there, and we all know how great a sign that is.

It’s time to start thinking about Sunday afternoons getting our green on, watching Rex and the gang make their way back to the playoffs.

And there are many reasons to be optimistic.

The Jets are faster, especially on defense. Quinton Coples and Demario Davis, among others, are evidence of that.

Karl Dunbar is here, ready to teach the linemen the techniques they need to get to the quarterback.

Sparano is in, as is a new attitude on the offensive side of the football. The offense is recommitted to the running attack, and we know the success that brought the Jets in 2009 and 2010.

We have a new and improved Rex Ryan. No, not just because he has slimmed down over 100 pounds, although it doesn’t hurt. Coach has committed himself to knowing more about what is going on with his team, to avoid the problems of last season, which can only be a good thing.

Don’t forget the return to Cortland as well as a positive, as the 2 seasons spent there ended with trips to the AFC Championship game.

And I haven’t even mentioned the versatile backup QB yet.

We know there are a lot of questions that need to be answered, but today is not the day to think about that. There will be time for that.

Today is a day for excitement, Jets football is back!

The players are here, including an island. They are 0-0, 2011 is in the past. It’s time to see our team get to working out, and primed for the 2012 season.

Like Christmas morning, or for me, Chanukah, it’s like coming down to the tree/Menorah, and not knowing what you are going to get. You know you are getting presents, but you don’t know what they are.

Jets football is our present. Jets football is back! Happy training camp opening day Jets fans! Finally!
