Quarterback coach Matt Cavanaugh, has talked recently about all the upside that Tim Tebow has shown. People are making note of this, as Tebow has only taken reps at quarterback so far.

“I think he can be very good,” Cavanaugh told the Daily News. “I was pleasantly surprised when I saw him over an extended period of time . . . not just watching him play on film. I think he’s certainly got the arm strength. He has good mechanics. They’re getting better every day.”

They have begun working on adjustments when the play breaks down, but the main focus has been fundamentals inside the pocket, when it doesn’t break down.

“I think with Tim, he’s more focused right now in the offseason on just working on the fundamentals of trying to be rhythmic in the pocket,” Cavanaugh said. “So (he) can be using the mechanics that (he) wants to be using. We started to toy a little bit with some of the other things that will happen to you . . . And he’s shown great progress. I’m real pleased with him.”

He is not concerned that any Tebow packages will be an issue for Mark.

“I think any quarterback that plays doesn’t want to come off the field,” Cavanaugh said. “But that’s the head coach’s decision. Between Rex and Tony Sparano, the offense will be totally set and that will be their plan.

“If you’re a really good quarterback, you understand that you want to do what’s best for the team,” Cavanaugh added. “So I don’t see it being an issue.”

Cavanaugh also loves Tim Tebow’s work ethic.

“He doesn’t let a day go by when he’s not focused on trying to get better at something,” Cavanaugh said. “When you’re in that role as a backup, you take every rep, every drill, every offseason practice or meeting to get better. . . . The playing time? Nobody knows how much it’s going to be. So I don’t think we worry about that.”

“The perfect scenario is that… we win enough games to get into the playoffs, go deep into the playoffs and have a chance to win a Super Bowl,” Cavanaugh added. “I want our quarterbacks to be a part of it… I’m not concerned at all about playing time.”

But is there room for two leaders at quarterback on the Jets?

“I’m sure if you went back and checked the quarterback controversies, to some extent somebody thought they had two great leaders, two quality quarterbacks,” Cavanaugh said. “But only one plays at a time.”

I think it’s interesting when asked about having 2 leaders, he mentions QB controversy. Is he leaning towards Tebow as the guy he wants? He never really addresses if there is room for both of them.

Will be interesting to watch.
