NY Jets WR Randall Cobb might be the worst player in the NFL

Randall Cobb has been really, really bad

The NY Jets have a few personnel changes to consider during their bye week, but perhaps none is more important than limiting the snaps of wide receiver Randall Cobb. Put simply and bluntly, Cobb has a strong case for being the worst player in the NFL right now.

That's a bold claim, but Cobb's inability to contribute in any facet of the game makes him a strong candidate. Forget the veteran leadership — Cobb is actively hurting the Jets every time he's on the field.

The 13-year NFL veteran has played 49 percent of the Jets' offensive snaps this season. When Cobb is on the field, the Jets' offensive EPA per play ranks dead last in the NFL. In comparison, when rookie Xavier Gipson is on the field, the Jets' offensive EPA skyrockets to 12th in the league.

The Jets' offense is the worst in football when Cobb is on the field, and pretty much an above-average unit when he's on the sideline. That's not just a coincidence, either. Cobb has been dreadful through six weeks.

Randall Cobb is a complete liability for the NY Jets

Cobb has hauled in just three catches for 20 yards over the first six weeks of the season. This is despite playing half of the Jets' offensive snaps and being targeted 12 times.

His ridiculously bad 40 percent drop rate is easily the worst among qualified wide receivers. His 46.5 Pro Football Focus grade ranks 111th out of 112 players at his position. He's not just a liability as a receiver, though.

Cobb also ranks 129th out of 129 qualified wide receivers in PFF run-block grade. He's the worst run-blocking wide receiver in the NFL right now.

It gets worse. Cobb is averaging a woeful 0.16 yards per route run — three times worse than any other wide receiver in football. No other wide receiver is averaging less than 0.45. Only two others are below 0.60.

Cobb can't get open, has quite literally the worst hands in the NFL, and is the worst run-blocker at his position. It's pretty much impossible for a player to be worse in their role than Cobb has been through the first six weeks of the season.

What makes matters worse is just how much the Jets have used him. Cobb has played more offensive snaps than Breece Hall this season. Yes, Hall was on a snap count early in the year, but that's an egregious stat.

The Jets would be better off giving Cobb's snaps to, well, literally any other wide receiver in the NFL right now. Mecole Hardman is rotting away on the bench. Xavier Gipson has proven to be effective in a limited role. Heck, Jason Brownlee has been a healthy scratch in every game.

Cobb is simply taking up space on the field. He's a complete liability in every aspect of the game and shouldn't even be active on game days, let alone playing half the team's offensive snaps.

It's time for the Jets to make a change after their bye week. Cobb doesn't belong on the field.
