4. Cornerbacks and safeties the NY Jets could target

  • CB – Tyson Campbell- Georgia
  • CB – Asante Samuel Jr.- Florida State
  • CB – Ifeatu Melifonwu- Syracuse
  • CB – Paulson Adebo- Stanford
  • CB – Kelvin Joseph- Kentucky
  • S – Trevon Moehrig- TCU
  • S – Jamar Johnson- Indiana
  • S – Richie Grant-UCF
  • S – Jevon Holland- Oregon

Cornerback is still a pressing need for the Jets, and the value at the top of Round 2 could be challenging to ignore. The Jets not only have a need at the outside corner spot but in someone who can compete to play in the slot as well.

It’s hard to ignore Asante Samuel’s lineage and competitiveness in fulfilling either role on defense. Size and length will be vital traits that cornerbacks will need in the Jets’ new defensive scheme. Players like Ifeatu Melifonwu, Paulson Adebo, and Kelvin Joseph fit that profile.

Safety is one spot that Jets fans shouldn’t expect their team to address in Round 2, with Marcus Maye, Lamarcus Joyner, and Ashtyn Davis patrolling the back-end of the Jets defense.

But Gang Green lacks a natural in-the-box safety on their roster so if the team ends up back in Round 3, it’s a position that could be targeted.

Surprisingly, TCU’s Trevon Moehrig is still available after being projected by some to be a late first-round pick.
