DEFENSIVE LINE: A- What a job these guys did, huh? It’s difficult to even single anybody out, they all played so well. Well, one guy deserves it once again, Damon Harrison. Starting at nose tackle, he recorded 4 solo tackles and 5 combined total.

The whole afternoon, the defensive line was in Josh Freeman’s face all day. This will be key to the rest of the year, being able to put pressure on the QB without the need for exotic blitzes.

LINEBACKERS:B+ The linebackers overall had quite a nice game as well. Antwan Barnes is looking like quite the signing with his speed off the edge. The move from Bart to Demario Davis proved to loom large yesterday as well, as he caught Vincent Jackson from behind with a huge tackle.

We didn’t hear from Ricky Sapp at all. There were also quite a few passes over the middle, which combined to bring the grade into the B range.

DEFENSIVE BACKS:C- Antonio Cromartie was torched all day long. He looked, frankly, slow. Dee Milliner had a couple of flashes, but he too was not great. The safeties cleaned up what they could, but there were too many plays that they needed to clean up.

SPECIAL TEAMS:A- Everyone was fine on the specials this week, special extra grade, bringing it to an A, to Nick Folk for a long field goal to win it late.

What are your grades?

    Really great points Alan.
Stephen Hill’s game was a pleasant surprise, he showed off his blocking skills and proved his hands aren’t made of stone. Another point on the dominate D-line play was even when they couldn’t get to the QB they did a good job of getting their hands up and making it more difficult for Freeman, that didn’t happen last year. Also there was no quit in this team yesterday, everyone played the full 60 and that is what it takes to win in the NFL. It wasn’t the most beautiful game but all us Jet fans can be proud of our team!

Thanks Ben. Great point about the D-line. Even when they weren’t laying a hit on Freeman, they had hands in his face. A win is a win, we will certainly take it.

Geno should be graded twice. After starting off 7-for-15 he completed 17 of 23 passes to finish the game. His decision making was pretty solid. His touch, timing and placement on short passes is way beyond that of Mark Sanchez already. So if you see the progress he made during that 17 of 23 stretch his rating would be higher. His progression is upward and should give us all hope for a bright future. His final QBR of 80.6 is fantastic for his first start.

    • Alan Schechter

He looked good, and far better as the game went along, totally agree.

  • Andrew Kahn

Just not enough help surrounding the quarterback, whoever he is, right now.

You must be listening to Cimini, Manish and the rest of the media clowns. Holmes, Winslow, Kerley, Hill and Gates provide Geno with plenty of weapons. Marty calls a great game. The offensive line will gel and be one of the best lines in the league once it gels. Stop listening to the media clowns.
