Cheer up Jets fans(pictured right), day 2 of the draft is here. Just a few hours away, we will continue to find out our future stars as John Idzik and company get back to the war room to plow through rounds 2 and 3, tonight from Radio City Music Hall. Last night, if you don’t know by now, the Jets beefed up on defense by choosing CB Dee Milliner and DT Sheldon Richardson.

What are they going to do tonight? Here are my thoughts.

Contrary to what some believe, I do not think that the Jets will take Geno or any other quarterback tonight. Is it possible for Saturday? Sure. I don’t believe that they will have any of the quarterbacks graded high enough to go in the second or third round. The grades on these guys, as we have talked about before, are so wide-ranging, that they won’t agree on one of them for tonight. That’s my story on that and I am sticking to it.

The pick we very well may see will give us insight as to how much influence Rex Ryan still has on the draft room. We have talked about this previously, the fact that Rex is quite fond of Margus Hunt, defensive end from SMU. He has good reason, if you look at his video, he will remind you a bit of JJ Watt.

Whether you agree with that comparison or not, the point is that Rex loves him. So much so, that he worked Hunt out personally at DE and OLB at his Pro Day. The last time that happened, it was 2012 and the player was Quinton Coples, last year’s choice at #16 overall. Does Rex still have enough influence to make this the choice tonight? I think it’s possible, look out for it.

Aside from that, look for some offensive players to help out Mark Sanchez or whomever is playing quarterback. They might have their eyes on Zach Ertz, TE from Stanford or Travis Kelce from Cincinnati. The Jets are in desperate need of a starting tight end, watch for this as a strong possibility tonight.

There are weapons on the outside to look for possibly tonight as well, weapons that the Jets find as a better value than Austin was. Look for names such as Kennan Allen, Robert Woods, or Steadman Bailey just to name a few. I haven’t named them all, but there is a strong sense they will look for an outside weapon tonight.

Prediction? I actually see two offensive weapons tonight, a WR and a TE. I am not sure that Rex has enough influence anymore to bring Hunt into the fold. I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens, but I am not expecting it.
