The most recent update we heard regarding NY Jets running back Breece Hall was that the team expected him to be ready by the start of the 2023 season. Hall previously indicated that he hopes to be healthy before training camp this summer.

Jets owner Woody Johnson caught up with Hall on Tuesday and shared a photo of the two of them together on Twitter. Johnson suggested that Hall said he was "feeling good," during their conversation.

Recent images of Hall have shown the second-year running back to be in fantastic shape. A return prior to training camp seems possible and a return before Week 1 feels probable.

The Jets will continue to monitor Hall's progress, but barring any setbacks on his road to recovery, the team expects to see him on the field for the start of next season.

Other NY Jets news

One NFL analyst believes the Jets should have targeted Cam Newton over Aaron Rodgers

There have been some really bad takes throughout the Jets' pursuit of Aaron Rodgers this offseason, but one such opinion shared by NFL analyst Mike Tanier on Tuesday might be the worst of them all.

In response to Cam Newton working out for NFL teams at Auburn's pro day, Tanier implied that the Jets would be better off with Newton as their quarterback instead of Rodgers. Yes, really.

Tanier insisted that the Jets could make the playoffs with Newton, retain their draft capital, save a lot of money, and, as he put it, "cope with about 50% less self-absorbed weirdness."

Mind you, Newton didn't play in the NFL last season, and he hasn't thrown more touchdowns than interceptions in a season since 2018. It's not worth further analyzing why this take is so patently absurd. Let's just leave it and move on.

Jets hire a new coach

The Jets hired a new coach on Tuesday, per ESPN's Rich Cimini, as the Jets added Shaq Wilson to their coaching staff to be the team's new assistant defensive line coach.

Wilson replaces Greg Scruggs, who left to become the defensive line coach at the University of Wisconsin. A former standout linebacker at South Carolina, Wilson served as a defensive analyst for his alma mater last season.

He previously worked as a graduate assistant, defensive quality control coach, and assistant director of football player personnel for South Carolina.

Wilson also spent three years as the assistant director of football sports performance at Tennessee before returning to South Carolina in 2021.
