The NY Jets held their first practice of training camp on Wednesday and a few players were notably absent. And no, we're not talking about rookie quarterback Zach Wilson in this case.

Safety Ashtyn Davis and defensive end Vinny Curry were among those sidelined by injuries for the start of training camp. Head coach Robert Saleh gave updates on a variety of injuries following Wednesday's practice.

And the prognosis on Davis and Curry wasn't exactly encouraging.

Saleh revealed that both Davis and Curry, who are each on injury lists at the moment, were not expected to return until Week 2 of the regular season.

The NY Jets will be without Ashtyn Davis and Vinny Curry for Week 1.

Davis is working his way back from foot surgery after the former Cal safety was injured in December of last year. The Jets placed him on the Active/PUP list last week prior to the start of training camp.

A third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Davis started six games as a rookie after taking over for veteran Bradley McDougald in the starting defense.

He struggled to make much of an impact and encountered his fair share of rookie growing pains, but the hope was that he could return and play at least a part-time role on defense in 2021.

His delayed rehab might affect those plans, however.

As for Curry, the Jets placed the veteran defensive end on the Active/Non-Football injury list last week. He reportedly had an "unknown offseason procedure" which will keep him out for the start of the regular season.

The Jets signed Curry in March of this year reuniting the longtime Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher with current Jets general manager Joe Douglas.

At 33-years-old, Curry isn't expected to be more than a rotational pass rusher this season, but his veteran presence could prove valuable to a young Jets defensive line.

The Jets also provided an update on star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams who remains sidelined with a foot injury. The team originally hoped that Williams would be able to return for training camp, but they decided to play it safe and keep him sidelined a little longer.

Saleh said that the team wasn't concerned and that they expect Williams back within the coming weeks.

The Jets will be without both Davis and Curry for the start of the regular season. But at the very least, it seems as though Quinnen Williams will be ready to return before long.
