It seems like a formality that the NY Jets will sign free-agent running back Dalvin Cook at this point. If you ask former Jets fullback Tony Richardson, he'd probably agree.

Richardson was interviewed on Saturday, and he seemingly let it slip that Cook was bound for Florham Park. The 16-year NFL veteran insisted that he had "insider information" that Cook was signing with the Jets.

Richardson went as far as to say that Cook "will be a Jet for sure," speaking about the situation as if it was inevitable. While he insisted that he wasn't necessarily breaking any news, Richardson was confident that the Jets would sign Cook.

This comes one day before Cook's official visit with the team, which is set to take place on Sunday. The four-time Pro Bowler will take a physical, and if all goes according to plan, the assumption is that he will sign with the Jets.

According to Richardson, it's a definite. Cook will be the newest member of the Jets.

A Dalvin Cook signs feels inevitable for the NY Jets

The Jets have been connected to rumors surrounding Cook for months. The former Minnesota Vikings running back has garnered interest from a number of teams, but the Jets are the odds-on favorites to sign Cook at the time of writing.

Cook told ESPN on Saturday that he doesn't have any other visits planned. He's gone on record saying that the Jets would be a "super team" if/when they sign him.

At this point, it would be one of the most ridiculous misdirections in franchise history if Cook doesn't end up signing with the Jets. It's pretty much inevitable, barring any unforeseen developments.

The Jets are searching for extra running back depth behind Breece Hall while the former second-round pick recovers from a torn ACL. Even if Hall is ready for Week 1, the Jets want as much insurance behind their star back as they can get.

If the Jets want to ease Hall into a larger workload as the season progresses, it would make sense to have someone like Cook shoulder some of the load early in the year.

The likes of Michael Carter and Zonovan Knight struggled to replace Hall last season and fifth-round rookie Israel Abanikanda is an unproven commodity. Cook has the experience and production the Jets are looking for even if his efficiency has drastically declined.

If Tony Richardson and various reports are to be believed, Dalvin Cook might be the newest member of the New York Jets by the end of the day. It's happening folks. Get ready.
