The NY Jets have been sniffing around the offensive tackle market over the last few months, and after a slew of injuries at the position, they're once again searching for a potential addition.

Pro Football Focus' Doug Kyed reported on Tuesday that the Jets were "looking for more help at offensive tackle" following the recent injury to Duane Brown.

The Jets lost Mekhi Becton for the season this summer and his replacement, Brown, landed on the injured reserve before Week 1 and will miss at least the first four games of the season.

In his place, the Jets slid George Fant over to right tackle and started rookie fourth-round pick Max Mitchell on Sunday to less-than-stellar results. With Conor McDermott out with an ankle injury, the Jets were forced to elevate Grant Hermanns from the practice squad as their only backup tackle.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the Jets sure are desperate for tackle help.

The NY Jets need to add another offensive tackle

It's no surprise to see that the Jets are interested in adding another offensive tackle. Even before the injuries to Becton and later Brown, the team has been looking to sign a veteran backup since their interest in Riley Reiff earlier in the summer.

Now, injuries have left the Jets razor-thin at the position, and with no clear timetable on Brown's return, it's obvious that the team is concerned. The hope is that Brown can return in time for Week 5, but that much is very much to be determined.

Brown's shoulder injury is serious enough that it could have required season-ending surgery, but he and the Jets opted to take the rehab approach and push surgery off. It remains to be seen if that decision will pan out.

Either way, the Jets are already down to their fourth-string tackle with Mitchell. If anything were to happen to him or Fant, the team would be forced to turn to either McDermott (if he's healthy) or Hermanns, who has yet to play in an NFL game.

Nate Solder, Daryl Williams, Marcus Cannon, Brandon Shell, Bryan Bulaga, Kendall Lamm, and Mike Remmers are some of the free-agent offensive tackle options that remain available.

The Jets are searching for offensive tackle reinforcements, and they really didn't have any other choice.
