The NY Jets have reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year deal with free-agent offensive tackle Morgan Moses, per Sam Fortier of the Washington Post.

The offensive line overhaul continues in New York as the Jets land a veteran lineman who should immediately step in as the team's starting right tackle.

Moses was released by the Washington Football Team last month after spending seven seasons with the organization. A third-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Moses started 96 consecutive games for Washington before being released.

A rock-solid starter on the right side of Washington's offensive line for the last half-decade, the Jets emerged as favorites for Moses last week. General manager Joe Douglas acted quickly and landed a significant offensive line upgrade.

The NY Jets continued to bolster their offensive line with the Morgan Moses signing.

Moses visited with the Jets last month shortly after being released, but it wasn't until last week that talks became serious. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported last Thursday that the two sides were "closing in on a deal" although that was the last we had heard of it.

Until today.

Even at age 30, Moses is still going strong and coming off one of the best years of his career. He finished the 2020 season ranked as Pro Football Focus' No. 18 overall offensive tackle including an 84.7 run-block grade that was seventh at his position.

Moses will likely step in as a day-one starter at right tackle leaving the future of the incumbent George Fant a little uncertain.

The Jets could opt to cut Fant, although that would come with a significant dead cap charge. The more likely outcome will see the Jets keep Fant as a swing tackle where he could provide valuable tackle depth.

That depth is especially important given the nagging foot injury that young left tackle Mekhi Becton has been dealing with.

It's safe to say that Fant will be a significant upgrade over the likes of Chuma Edoga and Conor McDermott, just as Moses will be an upgrade over Fant.

The offensive line overhaul has continued this offseason and the Jets managed to land an above-average starter in late June.
