The NY Jets' safety room was inconsistent at best in 2022. The duo of Jordan Whitehead and Lamarcus Joyner proved to be more of a liability for the team's defense than anything.

While Joyner is almost certainly a goner, Whitehead might be sticking around, even after the addition of Chuck Clark last month. ESPN's Rich Cimini reported on Sunday that the Jets believe Whitehead's "production will increase now that he's had a year in the system."

There have been rumors that the Jets could release Whitehead and save $7.25 million. After all, Clark and Whitehead essentially fill the same role in the team's defense. But as of right now, it sure seems as though the Jets plan to keep both Clark and Whitehead.

The Jets are confident that Whitehead will be better in 2023. For the sake of the entire defense, they better hope that's the case.

Other NY Jets news

Breece Hall's 'fantastic' recovery

It's always difficult to project how a player will recover from a serious knee injury. No two rehab stints are created equal, and for every Adrian Peterson who puts together an MVP season eight months after tearing his ACL, there are others who struggle to regain their pre-injury form.

The Jets seem to be very pleased with the recovery of star running back Breece Hall. Head coach Robert Saleh told reporters last week that Hall "looks fantastic." The team is very encouraged by the progress he's made.

The expectation is that Hall will be ready in time for the start of the regular season. He might miss some time in the summer, but all signs point to him being ready for Week 1.

Hall isn't out of the clear yet, but the early indication is that he should be able to return from his injury before the start of the season.

Jets host multiple draft prospects on visits

The 2023 NFL Draft is less than three weeks away, and the Jets are getting in plenty of pre-draft visits. On Monday, three more official draft visits were reported.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that the Jets are hosting Michigan tight end Luke Schoonmaker on a pre-draft visit this week. LSU cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse visited with the Jets on Monday, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Meanwhile, LSU edge rusher B.J. Ojulari is set to visit with the Jets for a top-30 visit on Tuesday, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Schoonmaker and Ojulari are both seen as likely Day 2 prospects, while Bernard-Converse is an expected Day 3 target.
