The NY Jets are certainly doing their homework on the consensus top center in this year's draft class, Minnesota's John Michael Schmitz. The team reportedly met with Schmitz privately, and they have an official top-30 visit with him scheduled, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

The Jets also met in person with Schmitz at his pro day, the Senior Bowl, and the NFL Combine. Essentially any opportunity the Jets have had to speak with Schmitz, they've taken to this point.

Reports suggest the Jets "love" Schmitz and seem to be eyeing him in the 2023 NFL Draft. It remains to be seen, however, if he actually falls to them in the second round or if they'll need to move up to snag him.

The Jets have an obvious hole at the center position at the moment, and Schmitz could certainly fill that void as a day-one starter. They're clearly paying close attention to him in the pre-draft process.

Other NY Jets news

Michael Carter apologizes on Twitter

Jets running backs Breece Hall and Michael Carter caused a bit of a stir last week following their tweets that seemingly rejected the idea that the Jets could sign Ezekiel Elliott.

Carter, in particular, went on somewhat of a blocking spree, as many fans noted, with the third-year running back blocking a number of accounts on Twitter, many of whom criticized him or pushed for the Jets to sign Elliott.

On Saturday, Carter issued a light-hearted apology to anyone he may have blocked, indicating that the situation was likely resolved. He insisted that he was "just [trying to] lock in" before suggesting that he doesn't take social media seriously.

As Carter states, "social media isn't real life." It's important to keep that perspective sometimes.

Calais Campbell "likes" Jets-related tweet

The Jets are one of a few teams interested in signing six-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Calais Campbell with the team set to bring him in for an official visit next week.

We know the Jets are interested, but what about Campbell? If you're one to connect the dots between Twitter likes and a player's career aspirations, I might have some good news for you.

Campbell was spotted on Twitter "liking" a tweet from the NFL showcasing a highlight reel of Sauce Gardner's best plays from his rookie season. Of course, this caught the attention of Jets fans.

Does it mean anything? Probably not, but for Jets fans desperate for a high-profile addition like Campbell, this is something to latch on to.
