The NY Jets seemingly emerged as one of three finalists to sign free-agent running back Ezekiel Elliott on Thursday. However, the supposed interest might be a bit more one-sided than initially believed.

John Clark of NBC Philadelphia responded to Adam Schefter's report that Elliott's three preferred destinations were the Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Cincinnati Bengals, saying that the Eagles had not reached out to Elliott. They are not expected to pursue the former All-Pro running back.

Clark later insisted that the Jets, Eagles, and Bengals are more of a "wishlist" of teams Elliott would like to play for. There's no indication that any of those teams are actually interested in signing him.

The Jets' supposed (and perhaps fake) interest in Elliott caused quite a stir on Twitter yesterday. As it turns out, it might have been for nothing.

Other NY Jets news

Elijah Moore comments on his Jets departure

Elijah Moore penned an emotional goodbye to the Jets and their fanbase on Thursday following the team's decision to trade him to the Cleveland Browns this week. Moore had nothing but positive things to say about his Jets tenure.

The former second-round pick thanked the Jets organization for providing him with an opportunity that "will never be forgotten" before expressing his gratitude to Jets fans saying, "New York will always hold a special place in my heart."

Moore also expressed appreciation for his now-former teammates, insisting that they "came in as teammates and leaving as family." In his introductory press conference, Moore, once again, took the high road and spoke very highly of his time with the Jets.

Of course, Moore's time in Florham Park was marred by a midseason trade request. It's nice to see Moore say all the right things, however, even if he made his displeasure clear last year.

Jets re-sign Ty Johnson

The Ezekiel Elliott rumors weren't the only piece of running back news for the Jets on Thursday, as the team reportedly re-signed veteran running back Ty Johnson to a one-year contract.

Johnson has been with the Jets since the middle of the 2020 season when he joined the team as a waiver-wire pickup from the Detroit Lions. The former sixth-round pick was used sparingly last season, but he made the most of his opportunities.

Johnson averaged 5.3 yards per carry on 30 rushes and played 42 percent of the Jets' special teams snaps. He's a core special teamer and a speedy change-of-pace back who has a lot of fans in the Jets' organization.

It's expected that Johnson will compete for a roster spot this summer in a pretty crowded running back room.
