The NY Jets are in the market for linebacker help this offseason, which is why many were intrigued about the possibility of adding Tampa Bay Buccaneers standout Devin White following word of his official trade request on Tuesday.

A former Pro Bowler, White is just 25 years old and has established himself as one of the most exciting young linebackers in the NFL. That said, it's hard to imagine the Jets target him — nor should they.

White is reportedly looking to become the NFL's highest-paid linebacker, and it's difficult to make an argument that he deserves that moniker. For all his natural talent, White remains a very inconsistent player. That much was very apparent this past season.

The Jets already have C.J. Mosley under contract as their highest-paid player. There's virtually no chance they trade for White and form the league's most expensive linebacker unit.

Other NY Jets news

Tim Boyle's contract details revealed

The Jets signed veteran backup quarterback Tim Boyle last week, adding one more name to their QB room. The details of Boyle's contract were revealed on Tuesday.

Per The Athletic's Zach Rosenblatt, Boyle's contract is for one year and is worth $1.08 million. It comes with a guaranteed signing bonus of $75,000 and an additional $75,000 if he's on the roster come Week 1.

Boyle's cap number is just $940,000, and the Jets can release him at any time with just $75,000 in dead cap. Essentially, he's not guaranteed anything this season.

If the Jets don't want Boyle on the roster, they can release him with essentially no penalty. Boyle will compete with Zach Wilson for the backup job, but he's not even guaranteed a roster spot.

Todd McShay's two-round Jets mock draft

ESPN's Todd McShay released his latest two-round mock draft last week, and he had the Jets bolstering their offensive line in a big way.

McShay has the Jets selecting Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. with the No. 13 pick and Wisconsin center Joe Tippmann with the No. 42 pick. He also had the Jets adding Alabama safety Brian Branch with the 43rd overall selection.

Of course, it remains unlikely that the Jets retain both second-round picks. The expectation is that one of those selections will be sent to Green Bay in the eventual Aaron Rodgers trade.

Still, it's hard to disagree with McShay's choices here. He addressed key needs and targeted quality players. Johnson would be a slam-dunk pick in the first round.
