As the NY Jets and Green Bay Packers continue to await a decision from Aaron Rodgers, the 39-year-old quarterback made his first public comments since his meeting with the Jets earlier in the week.

Rodgers spoke to Brandon Marshall of the I Am Athlete podcast on Saturday, insisting that he knows "there's a time limit" and that "it won't be long" before he makes a decision. That first part is very significant.

Rodgers didn't let anything slip when Marshall pressed him about the Jets in that brief interview, but he did make it clear that he's well aware of Monday's legal-tampering period soft deadline.

The Jets and Packers need an answer before the legal-tampering period begins at noon ET on Monday. That gives Rodgers less than 24 hours to announce his decision. The clock is ticking.

Other NY Jets news

Derek Carr's questionable comments

Derek Carr had his introductory press conference with the New Orleans Saints on Saturday, and a particular comment he made during the interview session caught some flack on social media.

When asked about potentially winning in New Orleans, Carr stopped short of offering any promises. Instead, he promised to work hard and always give maximum effort. The specific quote, however, didn't go over too well.

"Hopefully we can win. I can’t promise wins, but I can promise you great effort."

The tweet sharing the quote from Sports Illustrated's John Hendrix was later deleted, with Hendrix citing a lack of context. That didn't stop people from having a good laugh at the quote, though.

Ultimately, the quote shouldn't mean much, and it was definitely taken out of context. Still, it's hard not to wonder about the backlash Carr may have received if he had said something like that at his Jets' introductory press conference.

I guess we'll never know.

Jets restructure more contracts

The Jets created even more cap space on Saturday, restructuring the contracts of three more players. Cornerback D.J. Reed, tight end Tyler Conklin, and left guard Laken Tomlinson all had their contracts restructured, creating $15.2 million in cap space, in the process.

This comes after the Jets released Braxton Berrios and restructured the contract of C.J. Uzomah earlier in the week. The Jets have now gone from over the salary cap to $20 million under it, and that's before even touching players like Corey Davis, Carl Lawson, and C.J. Mosley.

Davis is expected to be released, while Lawson and Mosley are unlikely to return on their current cap hits. The Jets could extend Lawson or release and sign him back with a smaller price tag. Mosley is another strong restructure candidate.

The Jets have plenty of financial flexibility moving forward. They're in a healthy cap situation and will be able to make some moves this offseason.
