The NY Jets are fresh off a victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 4, but the team couldn't escape the week without some bad news regarding safety Marcus Maye.

ESPN's Rich Cimini is reporting that Maye is facing DUI charges stemming from a February arrest that is only now being made public.

The car crash and subsequent arrest reportedly happened on February 22nd — two weeks before the Jets would place the franchise tag on him — in Fort Lauderdale, Florida according to Broward County court records.

Maye is being charged with driving under the influence and two other misdemeanors. Those being DUI/damage to property and person and leaving the scene of a crash, according to the report. He posted bond in the amount of $1,500.

The NFL is reviewing the matter at the moment. As for the Jets, they declined to comment and it appears as though they were not made aware of the arrest until just now either.

Marcus Maye's NY Jets career was already facing uncertainties

Maye is currently sidelined with an ankle injury that is expected to keep him out of action until at least the BYE week in Week 6. But as his agent, Erik Burkhardt, made sure to point out, that is before the trade deadline.

Maye is currently playing on the franchise tag and has made his frustrations about that known. He wants a long-term extension, and given the Jets' reluctance to reach an agreement this past offseason, it seems unlikely he gets that from the Jets.

For that reason, many have pegged him as a logical trade candidate at the deadline. These charges could complicate matters, however.

Maye might be subject to a future suspension down the line which would mean extra baggage for any team looking to trade for him. It's unlikely this situation gets sorted prior to the trade deadline.

Marcus Maye's future with the NY Jets suddenly looks even murkier than it already did.
