The NY Jets made one of their most notable acquisitions in years this offseason when they acquired star pass rusher Haason Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Reddick's arrival helps mitigate the losses of Bryce Huff and John Franklin-Myers, as the former Defensive Player of the Year finalist is expected to immediately step in as one of the team's most important defensive pieces.

That is, of course, if he actually steps foot on the field. Reddick has been absent from Jets OTAs this spring, possibly a result of his uncertain contract situation. The former All-Pro is entering the final year of a three-year, $45 million contract he signed with the Eagles in 2022.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh was asked about Reddick's extended absence on Tuesday, and he didn't sound particularly pleased. In fact, Saleh insisted that he hasn't had any contact with Reddick this spring. Saleh told reporters that he didn't know why Reddick was not in attendance.

Should NY Jets fans be concerned about Haason Reddick?

Reddick's absence from voluntary OTAs isn't necessarily a major reason for concern, but it is a notable story. Reddick is forfeiting $250,000 in workout bonuses because of his absence — that's not nothing.

Saleh refused to answer if Reddick's absence was contract-related, but it seems pretty likely. The two-time Pro Bowler was traded due in large part to his desire for a new contract. Reddick also hinted at a hopeful extension in his introductory Jets press conference.

It seems clear that Reddick isn't at OTAs because he doesn't believe the risk of potential injury is worth it without financial security. He's even willing to forfeit $250,000 presumably for that same reason.

Of course, OTAs are voluntary, so Reddick isn't violating any team guidelines by not showing up. The real test will be when mandatory minicamp begins on June 11th.

Saleh insisted that the Jets expect Reddick to be in attendance for minicamp, so if he's a no-show for that event, that's when this situation will officially become a holdout.

For now, this is just something that's worth monitoring over the coming weeks and months. Haason Reddick wants a new contract. The Jets were aware of that before the trade, so the safe bet is to assume a deal is eventually reached.

Until then, this will continue to be a story to follow.
