The NY Jets seem to have found their quarterback of the future in 2021 second overall pick Zach Wilson. If not the distant future, his immediate future with the organization appears to be pretty secure.

But the latest betting odds indicate that might not be the case.

Per BetSided, the Jets are currently one of the favorites to trade for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason with +550 odds. Only three teams plus "The Field" have better odds of landing Rodgers in a trade.

The current betting odds look like this:

  • Philadelphia Eagles +150
  • Denver Broncos +150
  • The Field +200
  • Pittsburgh Steelers +400
  • New York Jets +550
  • New York Giants +700

NY Jets betting odds to trade for Aaron Rodgers are surprisingly high

There are a few interesting names on that list, most notably the Philadelphia Eagles who are the surprising favorites. The Eagles do have ample draft capital to make a trade happen, but they have remained steadfast in their support of Jalen Hurts.

The Denver Broncos make sense, as do the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants. All three teams have the need and desire to get a deal done, certainly more so than the Eagles or Jets.

This isn't to say that the Jets shouldn't necessarily explore a Rodgers trade, just that it seems highly unlikely that they do so. It seems the rationale for them being as high as they are is because of the draft capital and resources they have.

"The Jets have two picks in the Top 10 of the 2022 NFL Draft and four in the top 40. That's going to be enticing for the Packers. They also have a ton of cap space (over $47 million), which should be enticing for Rodgers. They also have a QB they just drafted No. 2 overall and not enough talent to become instant Super Bowl contenders. Still, the Jets traded for Brett Favre and perhaps they go all-in for another Packers QB being replaced by a younger signal caller."
Brian Giuffra, BetSided

There is some logic behind that, but it's hard to imagine the Jets would move on from a quarterback they drafted second overall less than 12 months ago, especially when that QB showed promise down the stretch.

Rodgers doesn't make the Jets Super Bowl contenders — he just doesn't fit their current window of opportunity.

Ultimately, these betting odds aren't exactly the best indicator of future events. But it is interesting — and surprising — to see the Jets listed as one of the favorites to trade for Aaron Rodgers nonetheless.
