The NY Jets traded backup tight end and special-teamer Daniel Brown to the Kansas City Chiefs less than three weeks ago in exchange for former starting guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.

Brown was released by the Chiefs on Saturday despite never appearing in a game with his new team. Today, Duvernay-Tardif is slated to start at right guard.

Connor Hughes of The Athletic reported on Sunday morning that the Jets were making a change to their offensive line with Duvernay-Tardif set to replace Greg Van Roten in the starting lineup.

This comes just a few weeks after the Jets acquired Duvernay-Tardif in a trade just a few hours before the deadline.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif could provide a major boost to the NY Jets offensive line

Duvernay-Tardif spent seven years with the Chiefs developing into a quality starting guard for the team. He started 57 games from 2015-2019 last playing for them in Super Bowl LIV.

The former sixth-round pick became the first player to opt-out of the 2020 season as he spent the entire year working at a long-term care facility in his home province of Quebec, Canada.

Duvernay-Tardif returned in 2021 but found himself out of a starting job after the Chiefs signed Joe Thuney and drafted Trey Smith. The trade was more of a cap-saving move for Kansas City, although the Jets certainly won't complain.

Van Roten has easily been the Jets' weakest link on the offensive line this season with a whopping 32 pressures allowed, most among all full-time right guards.

Despite his play improving in recent weeks, the Jets still felt the need to make a change. Duvernay-Tardif will join the likes of George Fant, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Connor McGovern, and Morgan Moses in the Jets starting offensive line.

Here's to hoping that Duvernay-Tardif can be a sizable improvement over Van Roten.
