The NY Jets returned to the practice field on Tuesday and practiced for the final time before their preseason opener on Thursday. It was a light day for the Jets, who practiced without pads, given that the team is just two days away from actual preseason action.
Defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers and wide receiver Corey Davis returned to practice in a limited capacity after missing a few days with injury and illness. Meanwhile, Garrett Wilson is expected to be back as early as this weekend.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that Zach Wilson will start in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday and that Mekhi Becton would play around 20-25 snaps as he continues to work his way back into playing condition.
It was a shirt practice for the Jets on Tuesday, but these five players all managed to impress.
Standout: Jason Brownlee, WR, NY Jets
You've probably already seen or heard about it by now, but Jets rookie wide receiver Jason Brownlee made the play of the entire summer during Tuesday's practice. Not just for the Jets, either. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more impressive catch made by any player on any team this summer.
Brownlee skied over defensive back Craig James, lept into the air, and made a miraculous one-handed catch on a deep ball down the sideline from Zach Wilson. It was a catch many described as Odell Beckham-esque.

Brownlee did injure his shoulder/arm on the play and was held out for the remainder of practice, but Robert Saleh didn't sound too concerned about the injury when speaking to reporters after practice.
Few players have done more to improve their stock this summer than Brownlee. If the Jets were forced to decide on their 53-man roster right now, it would be very difficult to leave him off the team.
Standout: Jermaine Johnson, DE, NY Jets
What more is there to say at this point? Jermaine Johnson has been arguably the most impressive player for the Jets this summer. He continued his stellar training camp with another excellent performance on Tuesday.
Johnson beat second-year offensive tackle Max Mitchell for two would-be sacks of Aaron Rodgers during Tuesday's practice, adding to his growing total of sacks this summer.
There's a reason Johnson has been working almost exclusively with the first-team defense while Carl Lawson has been relegated to second-team duty. The Jets fully believe that Johnson is ready to take on a much larger role this season.
Lawson will absolutely be an integral part of the defensive line rotation, but Johnson is really pushing for that starting job. Given the summer he's had, it's hard to make a case against him.
Standout: Sauce Gardner, CB, NY Jets
Training camp practices aren't only for the back-of-the-roster players looking to make a name for themselves. Sometimes established stars remind everyone of just how talented they are.
That was the case with Sauce Gardner on Tuesday. Gardner and the Jets' cornerbacks have made life difficult for the offense this summer, and that trend continued in today's practice.
The reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year had a gorgeous pass breakup working against Corey Davis on one of the final plays of practice. Earlier in the day, he came down in run defense and sniffed out an attempted outside run by Michael Carter.
Gardner hasn't shown any signs of slowing down entering his second season in the NFL. He remains a cornerstone of this Jets' defense.
Standout: Tim Boyle, QB, NY Jets
It's been a rough training camp for Tim Boyle, who has found himself outplayed by every other quarterback on the Jets roster. That changed on Tuesday, however.
Boyle was the man behind the two most impressive throws of the day, and they both came on the same series working with the third-team offense.
The first was a beautiful deep ball to undrafted wide receiver Jerome Kapp, who got behind the defense on a go-route for a touchdown. The second was a perfectly placed pass to fellow undrafted wideout T.J. Luther, who hauled in the long completion between two defenders.
Boyle has the edge in the QB3 competition, given his experience working with Aaron Rodgers and Nathaniel Hackett. Tuesday was a step in the right direction for Connecticut native.
Standout: Jeremy Ruckert, TE, NY Jets
Jeremy Ruckert was arguably the star of OTAs for the Jets, but he hasn't been able to make the same impact so far this summer. That was until he put together perhaps his best practice of training camp on Tuesday.
Ruckert hauled in the second of Rodgers' two touchdown passes on the day in what was the final play of practice. Working against rookie Zaire Barnes, Ruckert secured a tight-window pass from Rodgers with Barnes draped all over him in coverage.
Rodgers has quickly been developing chemistry with the Jets' tight ends this summer, as Ruckert and C.J. Uzomah both caught touchdowns from him on Tuesday. Tyler Conklin has become one of Rodgers' favorite targets as well.
Ruckert is still behind Conklin and Uzomah on the depth chart, but more performances like this one will help him force his way onto the field.
