The NY Jets are preparing to go all-in on the 2024 season. The current regime is fully aware of what is at stake this year. The Jets need to win. They need to not only end their 13-year playoff drought, but they need to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
That was the expectation when the organization traded for Aaron Rodgers last spring. An untimely Achilles injury temporarily delayed the team's Super Bowl aspirations, but Rodgers' impending return in 2024 reignites those dreams.
But if the Jets are going to establish themselves as true Super Bowl contenders going into next season, they're going to need to make some major offseason moves.
While not all of these trades are the most realistic transactions, each of them would give the Jets a real chance to push for a Super Bowl run in 2024.
5. The NY Jets could trade for WR Davante Adams
Let's get this one out of the way first. The Las Vegas Raiders don't have any plans to trade Davante Adams at this time, and Adams seems to be content staying with the organization he reportedly wanted out of just a few months ago.
But if there's any chance at all that Adams is moved this offseason, the Jets are the most likely destination. Not only will general manager Joe Douglas be aggressive in the wide receiver market, but Adams' close personal ties to Aaron Rodgers make the Jets an obvious landing spot.
Adams is fresh off his fourth consecutive 1,100-yard season in 2023, finishing the year with 103 catches for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns despite some less-than-stellar quarterback play.
Adams would give the Jets likely the best wide receiver duo in the NFL when paired with Garrett Wilson. If the six-time Pro Bowler becomes available at any point, expect the Jets to be aggressive in their pursuit.
4. The NY Jets could trade for S Justin Simmons
The Denver Broncos find themselves in a tight cap situation entering the offseason, which could force the team to make some difficult financial situations. One player who could be on the chopping block is longtime star safety Justin Simmons.
Simmons is entering the final year of his contract and is set to have a cap hit of over $18 million in 2024. The Broncos could release him and save $14.5 million, but his name has also popped up in trade rumors as of late.
The Jets haven't invested a ton in the safety position under Joe Douglas, but if Simmons can be had for a reasonable price, perhaps the team comes calling. The four-time second-team All-Pro remains one of the best safeties in football.
The Jets' defense is already one of the best in the NFL. Adding a star safety to the equation would complete what could go down as the best defense in franchise history.
3. The NY Jets could trade for WR Courtland Sutton
Simmons isn't the only Broncos player that could be on the trade block. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton has been a frequent resident in trade rumors over the last year or so, and those rumors have persisted this offseason.
Sutton still has two years left on his contract, but the Broncos can save nearly $10 million by releasing him prior to the start of the new league year. Another option they could explore is a trade.
Sutton recorded a career-high 10 touchdowns in 2023 to go along with 59 catches for 772 yards. He's not the same caliber of player as Davante Adams, but he would provide a perfect complement to Garrett Wilson as the Jets' WR2.
There's a real chance that Sutton finally gets moved this offseason, and if he does, the Jets should be among his top suitors.
2. The NY Jets could trade for WR Brandon Aiyuk
The third and final potential wide receiver trade target on this list is also the most recent to pop up in trade rumors. San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk appears unhappy with his current situation following the team's loss in Super Bowl LVIII.
Aiyuk is not only looking for a hefty contract extension as he enters the final year of his rookie deal but he's suggested that he's determined to play for a winning team. Perhaps the possibility of playing with Aaron Rodgers in New York could appeal to the All-Pro wideout.
Aiyuk has developed into one of the best deep threats in the NFL, averaging a whopping 17.9 yards per reception in 2023. He finished this past season with 75 catches for a career-high 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Jets will explore every possible avenue to bolster their wide receiver room this offseason. If the 49ers do actually make Aiyuk available, the Jets will undoubtedly be involved in his trade market.
1. The NY Jets could trade for OT Cam Robinson
The No. 1 priority for the Jets this offseason will be to fix their offensive line. Unfortunately, good offensive linemen are hard to come by, and the trade market isn't exactly overflowing with possible targets.
One above-average starting lineman who could be on the move this offseason, though, is Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Cam Robinson. Robinson is entering the final year of his contract in 2024, but the Jaguars can save over $16 million by releasing or trading him this offseason.
The former second-round pick has allowed just eight total sacks over the last three seasons, developing into a quality starting left tackle. At just 28 years old, he's a much more appealing target than some of the injury-riddled, veteran targets on the market.
The Jets can't really afford to take a chance on a player like Tyron Smith or David Bakhtiari. Robinson provides a similar upside at this stage and comes with fewer injury risks, even if he did miss eight games in 2023 due to a knee injury.
