The NY Jets' defense has gotten the better of the team's offense for the majority of training camp so far, and that was very much the case again during Monday's practice.

With just a few days remaining until the team's preseason opener, the Jets returned to the practice field on Monday with their longest session to date. It didn't seem to help Aaron Rodgers and the offense, though, who struggled for most of the day.

Corey Davis and Garrett Wilson both sat out again, although Davis, who has been nursing an illness, is expected to return as soon as tomorrow. Wilson probably isn't too far behind him.

Let's take a look at some of the more notable standouts and duds from the Jets' ugly practice on Monday.

Dud: The entire NY Jets offense

It isn't uncommon for defenses to get the better of offenses in training camp, especially early on. That has absolutely been the case for the Jets this summer, and that trend continued on Monday.

Despite a hot start, Aaron Rodgers finished just 8-of-17, going 4-of-11 on his final 15 throws. A lot of this wasn't his fault, although he did toss an interception to safety Tony Adams on an overthrow to Mecole Hardman.

The Jets dealt with drop issues again on Monday, with Allen Lazard and Zonovan Knight each dropping a pass. That makes it three drops for Lazard in only two practices — he notably struggled with drops in Green Bay.

The offensive line was also a mess, specifically the first-team unit. The likes of Carl Lawson and Will McDonald lived in the backfield on Monday as Rodgers had very little time to throw.

It's still early, but the offensive line has been notably the weakest position group on the roster this summer.

Standout: Tony Adams, S, NY Jets

One player who continues to impress is safety Tony Adams. Adams picked off Aaron Rodgers with a leaping interception on a deep ball up the seam intended for Mecole Hardman. It was the second time that Adams intercepted Rodgers this summer.

A 2022 undrafted free agent, Adams surprisingly made the 53-man roster last season and showed promise in a limited role as a rookie. Now, entering the 2023 season, he seems like the favorite to start alongside Jordan Whitehead.

Adams has been the best safety on the roster this summer. He's worked almost exclusively with the first-team defense ahead of Adrian Amos and continues to make plays.

With Thursday's Hall of Fame Game on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how much the Jets opt to play Adams. If Amos and the other backups receive the majority of snaps, it'll be a pretty clear indication of how the Jets view their second-year safety.

Dud: Wes Schweitzer, C/OG, NY Jets

The Jets made a change at the center position on Monday, running veteran Wes Schweitzer with the first-team defense ahead of Connor McGovern. The change did not go well.

Schweitzer struggled for most of the day, including multiple bad snaps that essentially ruined plays before they really started. On one play, Schweitzer nearly snapped the ball over Rodgers' head with the offense pinned back against the goal line.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters after practice that the team would continue to have an open competition for the center job, but that competition appears to be between McGovern and Schweitzer.

Rookie Joe Tippmann has worked exclusively with the third-team offense, and the Jets don't seem to be in a hurry to promote him. Right now, it's McGovern's job to lose.

Standout: Mecole Hardman, WR, NY Jets

With Garrett Wilson and Corey Davis sidelined, Mecole Hardman received plenty of snaps with the first-team offense, and he made the most of it. Hardman put together his best practice of the summer.

The highlight was a deep ball from Rodgers that Hardman hauled in after beating starting nickel cornerback Michael Carter II. Rodgers and Hardman connected on a long completion during Sunday's practice as well.

The former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver was sidelined for OTAs, so he's been playing catch-up a little this summer, at least as far as developing chemistry with his new quarterback is concerned.

Hardman has flown a little under the radar, but he's slowly putting together a nice training camp. And that's probably the only time the word "slowly" can be used in a sentence about Hardman.

Dud: Billy Turner, OT, NY Jets

Billy Turner has received the majority of first-team reps at left tackle this summer, with Duane Brown still sidelined. The Jets have tried Max Mitchell at left tackle a little, but it's clear they prefer him on the right side of the offensive line.

As for Turner, he hasn't exactly impressed with his reps. The veteran swing tackle was victimized by Carl Lawson on multiple occasions on Monday for a pair of would-be sacks.

Turner has been the weakest link on a lackluster Jets offensive line so far in training camp. He remains in competition with Mitchell for the starting right tackle job, but his performance this summer hasn't helped his case.

The Jets better hope that Brown is healthy for Week 1 because their options behind him aren't promising.
