The NY Jets have slowly been putting together a solid roster since Joe Douglas took over as general manager, and after a fantastic draft class a year ago and some big moves this offseason, we are now looking at one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the entire NFL.
After a big step forward to a 7-10 record in 2022, the Jets acquired a star quarterback and continued adding to this talented group, and with Super Bowl aspirations in mind, if everything goes right for the Jets, hopefully the individual accolades can come rolling in too.
After four All-Pros as well as the Defensive and Offensive Rookie of the Year, this is a team ready to make another step, and with such a talented roster, today we will take a look at 10 Jets that can realistically expect to be competing for Pro Bowl honors in 2023.
10. Tyler Conklin, TE, NY Jets
Many people look at the Jets' 2022 draft class but overlook the solid pickups they made in free agency, and while Tyler Conklin and C.J. Uzomah couldn't shine in 2022 with less-than-stellar quarterback play that shouldn't be a hindrance in 2023.
Even with the poor QB play, Conklin managed to haul in 58 catches for 552 yards and three touchdowns. While the AFC has the likes of Mark Andrews, Evan Engram, and Travis Kelce, Conklin is just as capable of production as any of those names, especially with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.
The Jets have drafted well for the future of the position, but in win-now mode, expect Conklin to become TE1 throughout the season. If he stays healthy, we should no doubt be looking at a career year for the former Minnesota Vikings draft pick.
9. Carl Lawson, DE, NY Jets
The Jets' pass rush worked extremely well in 2022 on the back of an All-Pro season from Quinnen Williams, and while Carl Lawson was still recovering from his Achilles injury, he managed quite an impressive campaign nonetheless.
Lawson racked up seven sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery last season. Now that the Jets have depth at the position, if he can remain 100 percent healthy, we could be looking at the version of Lawson that Jets fans expected when he first signed with New York.
Sure, the production may never reach the elite level that many expected, as Lawson has a way to impact the game without putting up great numbers, but if he can finally start finishing plays, as we've seen in flashes, he should finally get the Pro Bowl honors he's been so close too.
8. Alijah Vera-Tucker, OL, NY Jets
Many people will point to the loss of superstar running back Breece Hall as a turning point for the Jets' 2022 season. However, losing young offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker was just as devastating, as he proved himself to be one of, if not the most versatile offensive lineman in the NFL.
During his six games before injury robbed him of the remainder of the year, Vera-Tucker started at nearly every position except center along the line, and while that may make it tough to find a spot on the Pro Bowl roster, the line is much more set in stone in 2023.
Ultimately, AVT's best position is guard, and if Duane Brown, Mekhi Becton, Max Mitchell, Joe Tippman, Connor McGovern, and Laken Tomlinson can all stay healthy, we may be looking at the year that Vera-Tucker finally proves himself to be a top guard in the NFL.
7. C.J. Mosley, LB, NY Jets
Ever since arriving in New York, C.J. Mosley has been one of this team's best leaders, and after a career year in 2022 that saw him in the Pro Bowl and an All-Pro, he should be able to do just that again.
Sure, there haven't been that many big additions on the defensive side of the ball, but Mosley is the Quarterback of this defense, leading them all around the field, and if he can be as good a tackler as we've always seen, there's no expectation for a big drop off.
At 30 years old, Mosley still has plenty left in the tank, and with expectations higher than they've ever been in 2023, he could show us that he has another gear and another level to get to. Keep an eye on this Jets leader in 2023.
6. Breece Hall, RB, NY Jets
After an incredible start to the 2022 campaign, fans were robbed of a potential Offensive Rookie of the Year race between Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, and if he can get healthy, there's no reason to expect Hall to take a massive drop in 2023.
In just seven games, Hall racked up 463 rushing yards at 5.8. yards per attempt with four touchdowns, as well as 218 yards and another touchdown through the air, and if he's anywhere near healthy, expect a big step forward.
With the addition of Israel Abanikanda to a running back room that already includes Zonovan Knight and Michael Carter, we could be looking at one of the deepest units in the NFL, so they will give Hall time to heal, but when he does, keep an eye on No. 20.
5. D.J. Reed, CB, NY Jets
While plenty of attention from the 2022 defensive unit went towards rookie Sauce Gardner, free agent pickup D.J. Reed was just as important, and together, they made arguably the best cornerback duo in the entire NFL.
While Reed was snubbed for several awards in 2022, if he can play at the same level in 2023 with the Jets likely to take a step forward into playoff contention, there's no way he should be ignored, especially if he can improve his impact on the team.
Overall, Reed ended 2022 with one forced fumble, one interception, and 12 passes defended but finds himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, so there's no reason why he shouldn't be a Pro Bowl player in 2023.
4. Garrett Wilson, WR, NY Jets
One big problem the Jets have had in recent years is a lack of playmakers on the outside, and while Elijah Moore and Corey Davis were both solid for the Jets, neither became the difference-maker that the team was after. That's why the Jets made the smart choice of picking up Ohio State's Garrett Wilson at No. 10 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.
From the moment Wilson stepped on the field, he had the swagger and the ability to make plays, ending the year with 83 catches, 1,103 yards, and four touchdowns, despite dealing with the No. 32 ranked quarterback play in the NFL.
Now, Wilson gets to link up with one of the five or ten greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, and with two more weapons in Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman to take the attention off him, there's no reason why Wilson can't improve on a stellar rookie campaign.
3. Quinnen Williams, DT, NY Jets
Quinnen Williams came to the NFL with plenty of expectations on his shoulders, and while it took the young Alabama standout a while to get accustomed to the NFL, he has now started to take the massive leap that everyone expected.
In 2022, Williams had career bests across the board, with 55 tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and five passes deflected, earning him a Pro Bowl and All-Pro nod, a well-deserved accolade for the anchor of this defense.
Now, the offense has seemingly caught up to the defense, making Williams' role even more important in 2023, and if he can be just as good, we should see more accolades, as well as the breaking of the Jets' lengthy playoff drought.
2. Aaron Rodgers, QB, NY Jets
After all the talk centering around the Jets' incredible 2022 draft class, all the talk this offseason has swung to perhaps the biggest acquisition in franchise history, as the team has landed four-time MVP and former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
While Rodgers had a down season a year ago due to injuries and a lack of weapons, he was still able to throw for 3,695 yards with 26 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions, and if the Jets get that type of productivity, they'll be able to compete in a very tough AFC East.
With some big-time weapons around him, we've seen what Rodgers can do before, and with a top-five defense, something he's never had in his NFL career, this will create even more chances for No. 8 and this offense, meaning there is no reason why Rodgers can't make his 11th Pro Bowl in 2023.
1. Sauce Gardner, CB, NY Jets
Sauce Gardner was selected by the Jets with the No. 4 overall pick back in the 2022 NFL Draft, and while many people expected him to make an impact immediately, very few people envisioned him becoming one of, if not the best cornerback in the entire NFL in just his rookie campaign.
That's exactly what happened, however, as Gardner was named to the Pro Bowl, Defensive Rookie of the Year, and first-team All-Pro, and with just as much talent around him in 2023, there's no reason why he can't replicate that success this season.
Gardner has length, instinct, great ball skills, and the confidence to back it all up, and with the lights never being brighter in New York, this is his time to step up and cement himself as an all-time great of the future.
