The NY Jets are widely expected to make BYU quarterback Zach Wilson the pick when they’re on the clock at No. 2 overall next Thursday night. And when that pick is announced, Wilson will be there to celebrate.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that Wilson will be in attendance for the 2021 NFL Draft in Cleveland. Wilson will be the most high-profile prospect in the NFL’s green room come draft day.

Presumptive No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence opted not to attend the draft in Cleveland, instead choosing to watch the event at Clemson with family and friends.

But Wilson will be live in attendance when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell takes the stand to announce the Jets’ pick.

Other notable draft prospects who have chosen to attend the event are North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance, Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, Florida tight end Kyle Pitts, LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, and Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

The NY Jets will likely make Zach Wilson the pick at No. 2 overall

Wilson has been connected to the Jets for months now and as time as passed, it’s seemed clearer and clearer that the former BYU star will be the quarterback the franchise picks.

Despite rumors that the Jets could look to hold on to Sam Darnold this offseason, they elected to ship him away to the Carolina Panthers earlier this month solidifying their plans at the quarterback position.

And those plans will likely include Wilson.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora did report earlier this week that at least one NFL team is “not fully convinced” that Wilson will be the pick. And he insinuiated more teams could feel the same way.

But by all accounts, Wilson is the player the Jets are targeting.

The 21-year-old broke out in 2020 establishing himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He finished with 3,692 yards, 33 touchdowns, and only three interceptions en route to being named first-team All-Independent.

He set a new school record for completion percentage, breaking the record that was previously set by NFL Hall of Famer Steve Young.

In a supremely talented quarterback class, Zach Wilson has emerged as one of the better QB prospects in years.

And now, when he hears his name called on draft day, he’ll be there in person to appreciate the honor.
