The New York Jets went defense with their first round pick and flipped to the other side of the football on day two by boldly going quarterback.

The big question on the minds of draft analysts everywhere heading into day two is who would be the first quarterback off the board in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft and what team would be selecting him.

Well, all the speculation is over after the Jets selected quarterback Christian Hackenberg out of Penn State. This move sends shock-waves not only throughout the organization, but also has ripple effects to certain unsigned free agents. This doesn’t mean that there is no way Ryan Fitzpatrick comes back by any means. But it signals the end for someone, because there is a slim chance that the Jets would go into the season with four quarterbacks on the roster.

This selection has caused a stir among fans, but there are some media members who loved the selection.

‘Smooth’ Louis Riddick was in love with the move and early reports are suggesting that the Jets plan on grooming Hackenberg for the future. It seemed inevitable that the Jets were going to go quarterback, we just didn’t know how high.

Part of the reason for this pick is because it did seem like a lot of the targets for the Jets went off the board right before they picked. Nick Martin got stolen by the Houston Texans and Jason Spriggs got taken by the Green Bay Packers (both trading up in front of the Jets). Either way, the quarterback situation of the Jets just got a whole lot more interesting.
