NY Jets News: Ryan Fitzpatrick going under the knife

The NY Jets have revealed that quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will indeed go under the knife on Friday to repair a torn ligament in his non-throwing hand.
It has been widely reported that the NY Jets would decide what to do with Ryan Fitzpatrick and his thumb injury after the Thursday night game against Buffalo. Those reports were correct as head coach Todd Bowles revealed that Fitzpatrick would in fact go under the knife on Friday to repair the thumb ligament.
Bowles: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will undergo thumb surgery tomorrow. The understanding is that he could be available for game vs. HOU.

The understanding is that with the Jets bye week being already passed that it was now or never in terms of making a decision on his surgery. The Jets thought through this and decided that this provided the most amount of recovery time and the early prognosis is that Fitzpatrick will be able to start that game against the Houston Texans in the Jets next game.
There is hope and optimism that Fitzpatrick will be ready to go, if he’s not it appears that it will be Geno Smith time under center for a Jets team who is still very much alive in the AFC Wild Card race. After the game this is what Fitzpatrick said about the potential of him playing next week via the Media Relations Department of the Jets:
“Yeah, I think so. We’ll see how it goes. That’s the intention.”
Next: Too many missed opportunities doom Jets
The Jets best chance at winning right now appears to be Fitzpatrick and it seems to be a wait-and-see approach on his health status for next week’s game against the Texans.
