NY Jets: On to Buffalo

By Paul A. Esden Jr.

The NY Jets (5-3) got a huge win over the Jacksonville Jaguars but must now shift their focus to the Buffalo Bills (4-4).

The NY Jets coming off their first 2 game losing streak of the season needed a win in the worst of ways on Sunday and it wasn’t pretty but they got the much-needed win. Now the Jets have a short week against a familiar opponent in more ways then one on Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills (4-4).

The Bills ended their own losing streak on Sunday by sweeping the Miami Dolphins in dominating fashion. Let’s take a quick look at the AFC playoff picture if the season ended today:

This is from before this weeks’ round of games, but lets fill in the gaps: the Pittsburgh Steelers knocked off the Oakland Raiders pushing them to the 8th seed and the Bills knocked off the Dolphins kicking them to the 10th seed. The current standings has the Jets in the 5th seed and the Steelers in the 6th seed. With the Bills sitting on the outside looking in ahead of their match-up with the Jets. So why bring this up?

Well, this game could have huge playoff implications down the line, especially when it comes to the head-on-head match-ups. With a win the Bills would leap-frog the Jets into the playoffs and with a Jets win they could continue to build their cushion as we make our way to the end. Of course this will be Rex Ryan’s first return back to MetLife since the Jets’ front office purge at the end of last season. On top of that, there are so many storylines beyond the AFC East rivalry which will make this one of the most anticipated Thursday night games of the season.

Next: Still waiting for Stevan Ridley debut

Also, the Nike Color Rush campaign will debut with the Jets donning their historic Kelly Green jerseys which I’m extremely excited about. The Jets will need a historic performance to knock off the Bills and hopefully that means finding out what’s wrong with Chris Ivory and this running game. Hopefully getting some guys healthy and keeping this winning streak going.
