The third pick is in. The New York Jets have selected Lorenzo Mauldin with their third round selection in the draft, number 82 overall. They were previously in the 70th position, but traded with the Texans to move back to number 82, along with additional picks.

Take a look at Mauldin’s performance while at Louisville:

Defense & Fumbles

Looking at the numbers, Mauldin made quite the impact in the backfield of opponents.  31.5 TFL’s out of 113 total tackles for his college career is a huge number.  Mauldin is a talented player, and should have every chance to make an impact off the edge.

Mauldin fills yet another need for the Jets, an edge pass rusher.  Maccagnan is doing a good job so far at building this roster up around the current players.  We know he can evaluate talent, so if he thinks Lorenzo Mauldin is a talented player, I’m happy.

Mauldin has been in and out of 16 foster homes, and had to get over the hurdles of parents that got themselves in trouble.  It’s hard not to root for a guy like him.
