Todd Bowles Fuels Marcus Mariota Speculation with New York Jets Fans

There has been a great deal of speculation about whether or not the Jets have serious interest in Marcus Mariota. The Jets scouted Mariota at his pro day, and they sent a large contingent to a private workout with him in Oregon. Many of the draft forecasters have sent Marcus Mariota to the Jets in their various mock drafts.
Yesterday, Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles held a conference call with New York Jets season ticket holders. During that call, Bowles was asked, logically, about the quarterback situation. Here is what he had to say, as noted in the New York Post:
“We want competition at every position,” Bowles said. “Ryan is going to compete, as well as Geno is going to compete, and we hope to add somebody else to compete with them, along with [Matt] Simms.”
This could be taken many ways, one of which being that the Jets are interested in drafting Marcus Mariota. They also could be bluffing, attempting to show the league they want Mariota in order to obtain trade offers. It might also mean they are simply looking for a quarterback in the middle rounds. We don’t know.
However, it does make for interesting conversation. Maybe, the Jets are serious about Marcus Mariota after all. We will find out soon enough.
