Report: New York Jets to Host Stevan Ridley Today

Mike Maccagnan has been active thus far in free agency.  If the report earlier is true, he is far from done.

Adam Schefter reported earlier today that former Patriots running back Stevan Ridley is paying the Jets a free agent visit today.  Ridley has begun to make the rounds, already taking a visit with the Miami Dolphins.  With the initial wave of free agency not affording Ridley much interest, he is likely a guy that can be had at a bargain price, now making him an intriguing prospect.

As I have said before on these pages, Stevan Ridley to the Jets would make a lot of sense.  No, I am not talking about spiriting a guy away from the enemy, although that is nice.  We have seen that Ridley can carry the load, rushing for over 1,200 yards in 2012.  Last season, Ridley was on a pace to hit the 1,000 yard mark before losing his season due to injury.

His speed makes him a good fit with Chris Ivory.  Ridley’s injury is obviously a concern, but that combined with a soft market should keep the price down.  If they like what they see, the Jets should give Ridley a physical, and if they can agree to a low salary with incentives, get him here.

Stevan Ridley would make a great fit.
