2015 NFL Draft: SB Nation Mocks Marcus Mariota to the New York Jets

Time to analyze another mock draft. As the weeks go by, the draft draws closer and closer. With free agency starting to fill some team needs, the draft becomes more in focus. It becomes easier to possibly get a feel for what teams might be looking for when they head to Chicago.
Yesterday morning, SB Nation released their latest mock draft. So what did they come up with for our New York Jets? At number six, we hear the familiar refrain, Marcus Mariota. Here is the theory:
The talk about Ryan Fitzpatrick starting over Geno Smith should tell you everything you need to know about the Jets and quarterbacks. Mariota is a superior talent than both players in just about every area. While the offense will have to be catered to what Mariota does well, having a new head coach in New York is the perfect time to do it. If the pick of Mariota is a hit, it will change the franchise.

I don’t like the pick, and I don’t like the reasoning. Yes, we know that the Jets have had problems at the quarterback position. But, it’s too early to write Geno Smith off, and Ryan Fitzpatrick is better than most give him credit for. He is accurate, and was playing quite well before succumbing to injury last year. Marcus Mariota is a great athlete, but we don’t know if he is a good NFL quarterback or not.
Yes, if they choose Mariota and it works, it will change the Jets franchise. If not, they will be killed, and set back, yet again. You can’t take that type of risk with the number six pick in the draft.
No thanks.
