The Jets have been active today, and they aren’t finished. Take a look:

Source confirms safety Marcus Gilchrist visiting the Jets tonight and tomorrow, as @RapSheet reported. #nyj

That’s from Brian Costello from the New York Post. We know the Jets need a safety as they are looking to allow Calvin Pryor to play closer to the line like he did in college.

Here are the numbers for anyone not familiar with Gilchrist:

Clearly Marcus Gilchrist is an active player.  Over 70 tackles per season is a good number for a safety.  I don’t know if he puts Pryor back to his natural position, however.  With only three interceptions over the last two seasons, and 10 pass defended, Gilchrist is not much of a ball hawk.

That being said, the Jets need competition at the position.  The Jets were bad in the defensive backfield as a whole, not just at the cornerback position.  Gilchrist could provide the competition needed, we shall see if he leaves with a contract.
