New York Jets Bringing Home Bilal Powell

The Jets first official move of the day has been to resign one of their own.

Reports have surfaced that the Jets are bringing back running back Bilal Powell.  Powell was set to test the free agent market this afternoon, and the Buffalo Bills were rumored to have interest in the running back’s services.  Now Powell returns to continue his career with the Jets.  The Jets were thought to be heavy players in the C.J. Spiller market, but the move to sign Powell likely ends that potential.  The going thought at the moment is that the Jets will look for a third running back via the draft.

In four years with the Jets, Powell has rushed for 1,296 yards on 332 carries and six touchdowns.  He has also caught 65 passes for 511 yards.

I am actually not as surprised as most that Powell is coming back.  For one, Powell does everything well.  He is not a front line guy, but as a guy filling a role, he does it all well.  I also believe that the interest from Buffalo was a bit of a smoke screen.  Rex Ryan never showed much interest in Bilal Powell when he was here, it seemed hard to believe that he was a hot topic on his lips now.

But anyway, Powell returns, we shall see how the day progresses.
