Mike Maccagnan has made his first move to add to the Jets depth at cornerback.

The team has announced the signing of free agent CB Curtis Brown. Brown was the third round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2011, with the 95th pick overall.

In 2013, Brown tore his ACL, ending his season after only seven games.  Brown was released by the Steelers this past March.

Brown is just 26 years old, measuring in at 6’0″, 185 pounds.

It’s good to see the Jets getting after it already, so early in the new administration of Maccagnan/Bowles.  It’s hard to give much of an opinion on Brown at this point, because the play sampling is very small.  He is coming off of an injury, so we can only hope that Brown is ready to compete come camp 2015, although the injury will be over a year old by the time camp opens.

Brown will be here to compete in what is a wide open position group, the cornerback spot.  As it stands right now, anybody could make the team, as we look at the roster prior to the time where free agents like Cromartie are available.  Curtis Brown, if healthy, should at least help push the incumbent guys in camp.
