Mike Maccagnan has made his first major hire in the front office of the New York Jets.

The team announced that Brian Heimerdinger has been named as the Director of Player Personnel. Heimerdinger has worked for the Titans, and just came from his third season with the St. Louis Rams as a scout. He interned with the Houston Texans while Maccagnan was working there as a scout, so there was a connection with the new Jets general manager.

Take a look at the released info from the Jets by clicking here.

Heimerdinger has a Jets connection as well. His father was Mike Heimerdinger, who served as offensive coordinator with the Jets under Herm Edwards during the 2005 season. Unfortunately, Mike passed away due to cancer at the age of 58. It’s always nice to see when the team keeps Jets connections as part of the franchise.

It’s hard to know a great deal about a scout’s record, but we do know, as per the article from the team, that Heimerdinger had responsibilities scouting both NFL rosters and college prospects.

He’s 28 years old, which is one of the younger people you will ever see in that type of executive position. We will see what Mike Heimerdinger can do.
