Well, this must be a good sign for the Jets.

The Pro Football Writers of America have spoken, and their choice for assistant coach of the year is none other than the newest member of the Jets family, head coach Todd Bowles. This past season, as defensive coordinator of the Cardinals, Bowles defense was fifth stingiest in the league, allowing just 18.7 points per game, despite several injuries. Bowles was just outside the top ten in run defense as well, with his Cardinals coming in at 13th overall. Bowles led an opportunistic defense, with his Cardinals picking off 18 passes, good for a tie for fifth in the league.

We certainly know that Bowles’ experience with the secondary will loom large for a group that had difficulty covering anyone.

More from Jets News

Bowles has been a well-known and highly regarded assistant around the league, and his players have a great deal of affection for him. He certainly has paid his dues and his well deserving of the honor bestowed on him today.

Bowles inherits an already talented defense that certainly can get to the quarterback, which will serve him well with his inclination to blitz. Hopefully he can revive the secondary too.

Congratulations to coach Bowles.
