The New York Jets have made if official, naming Todd Bowles the newest head coach of the team, replacing Rex Ryan after his six years at the helm. Bowles was most recently the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals, and was the interim coach of the Miami Dolphins briefly in 2011.
Bowles, like Mike Maccagnan, is a New Jersey guy, being born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ. He was previously on the Jets staff, working as the secondary coach under Al Groh, who served in a pinch as we all remember after Bill Belichick quit.

This is a move that, at this point, the Jets had to make. Word was that the object of their affection was Dan Quinn, but waiting for him could have proven quite costly. If Quinn had gone elsewhere, and there were no other candidates, well, that would have been a disaster. If Bowles is who they wanted, good job by all involved for not letting him get away to Atlanta for a second interview.
We will have more analysis….stay tuned.
