Ian Rappaport (@RapSheet) of NFL Network is reporting that Jets owner Woody Johnson felt ‘duped’ into the fact that John Idzik had football knowledge when he hired him.

Last time, #Jets owner Woody Johnson felt he got duped into thinking Idzik had football knowledge. With Casserly & Wolf, won’t happen now

That is a strong statement by Johnson, if true, and an indictment of John Idzik, Woody Johnson himself, and the Korn Ferry search firm. Johnson’s over-reliance on the search firm, which does not have a “football guy”, is what caused the mistake and Johnson plans to rectify that by having former GMs Charlie Casserly and Ron Wolf run the search this time.

Let’s hope that Johnson gets it right because if he whiffs it will set the franchise back a few years.
