New York Jets: Sheldon Richardson Believes He Is on Level of J.J. Watt

Sheldon Richardson has all of the makings of a special football player. He has backed up his Defensive Rookie of the Year campaign with another strong showing in 2014. However, he is not yet talked about along the lines of J.J. Watt, or Ndamukong Suh. Richardson feels that he is already on that level, as he told Rich Cimini.
“J.J. Watt, he’s got a few more sacks than me, but it’s the same type of disruption,” Richardson said. “He’s a little more active, I’ll give you that, but we have the same type of determination, same heart, same skills. He scores touchdowns, I score touchdowns.”
He feels he is on the same level as all of the big linemen:
“The same people you see mentioned every day, getting big contracts, I’m on the same level,” Richardson said. “I don’t put them over me, I don’t put them under me. Most definitely, it’s the same comparison, really.

Richardson is obviously talking above his head a bit. If you look at the statistics, Watt is far better than Richardson. Richardson is great, but he is not there just yet.
That being said, I have no problem with a bit of swagger coming from Richardson. A defensive lineman that has some swagger is going to serve him well on the football field.
We can only hope that Sheldon Richardson gets to the level of the likes of J.J. Watt.
