The list of 25 semi-finalists for enshrinement in the football Hall of Fame was released late last night, and two former Jets are on it. No, to my generation and older Jets fans, Joe Klecko is not on that list. He still is absent from consideration, despite the dominant figure he was for the New York Jets in the 70’s and 80’s.

Here are the two former Jets that are on the list:

KEVIN MAWAE: Mawae was a member of the Jets from 1998-2005. He was the past version of Nick Mangold, and coincidentally, Mangold took over for Mawae at the center position. At a position that has numbers that are difficult to measure, Mawae had some direct measurables with the New York Jets. Mawae was an All-Pro six times, and was named to the Pro-Bowl six consecutive times.

STEVE ATWATER: OK, so out of his 11 seasons, only one was with the Jets, the final one in 1999. Known as one of the hardest hitters in football, Atwater was a dominant free safety in the league for more than a decade. His final season was with the Jets.

The complete list can be found here.
