Seeing Stephen Hill run after catching a football, as seen above, is becoming a rare sight in Jets’ camp. Stephen Hill doesn’t understand how to catch the ball with his hands, and it may ultimately cost him his position on the team.
Coach Ryan was asked about when he thinks Stephen Hill will start to produce. Here is what he had to say:
Well, I don’t know. He’s had some really good days out here. He’s had some great days out here. Today, he did have a couple of drops. Like we talked about, you’ve got to focus (more) on things (in bad weather). You can’t just assume it’s business as usual. It’s not. When you’re catching a wet football, it’s different. And so, obviously, we have to get better (at) that. As far as the game is concerned, he never caught a ball in the preseason game but I thought he did pretty well in that game. In particular his blocking and things like that were really good. I get it. I know receivers get paid to catch the football, but again, sometimes there are opportunities there (and) sometimes there aren’t.
I don’t think those “opportunities” will be there for Stephen Hill much longer.
