The New York Jets begin the 2014 preseason tonight at 7 p.m. vs. Andrew Luck in the Indianapolis Colts. So, if you are making the journey to MetLife Stadium here’s a look at the weather forecast:

“Mostly clear, with a low around 62. North wind 3 to 7 mph.”

Now what does this mean in terms of the game? Not a heck of a lot for the sheer fact this is a preseason game.

So what I will discuss is what I’d like to see out of the Jets from the first time this year that Gang Green gets a chance to hit someone other then a member of their own team.

I would like to see a little bit of movement in the quarterback battle. As we all know, Geno Smith is getting the start and I want to see signs of the Geno Smith we all hope he can be. Will he get a lot of time out there? No and that’s the general nature of the first preseason game. As Craig Hoffman touched on in his notes from the Green and White Scrimmage, both him and Michael Vick were average. I need someone to step up and take a step in the direction of taking ownership of the starting job – a touchdown would be nice.

The other thing is I want to see is Jace Amaro. As you all have been made aware, this kid is not as far along with the playbook as he should be. I just want to see him run some good routes and show that he’s learning the playbook.

The only thing defensively I want to see is how the secondary reacts. I know Dee Milliner is showing improvement in practice but I want to see how he handles the wide receivers for the Colts.

I’m of the mantra that the final score in preseason doesn’t matter. I just want to see the Jets take the necessary steps in the right direction.
