To know Rex Ryan is to love him. OK, the fan base doesn’t all agree on that point. But you know who does? His players. Everyone in that room loves their head coach. We saw it in the locker room after the final game of 2013.
It has spilled over to the new players as well. Listen to what Eric Decker had to say about coach Ryan:
He’s amazing. I have a lot of respect for him as far as a coach goes. His personality, coming in you see it a lot on TV, but what you see is what you get and that is great. He definitely takes care of his guys. He is going to do whatever he can to make us comfortable and to make us confident. He’s the ultimate player’s coach, he is going to take care of us and get us fired up and ready to play. That’s a good balance. You want to play for that coach, because he takes care of you and he respects you.
Now listen to first round draft pick, Calvin Pryor:
Rex is an awesome coach. He’s a player’s coach and he’s going to have me ready to go. He’s definitely a big-time motivator. His expectations are high, which they should be, and I’ve got his back just like he’s got mine.
See that? Even players that have just met the man see what everyone else in the locker room sees. They see that Rex Ryan is a guy that players want to play for.
And they always will, despite anything Mike Fatcessa might say.
